Maputo, Mozambique: A delegation of Japanese investors has met with representatives of the Mozambican Chamber of Commerce (CCM) to explore potential investment opportunities in the country’s agriculture and mining sectors. The meeting, held in Maputo on Monday, was part of a broader business-to-business networking initiative between the two nations.

The Japanese delegation, led by Toshihiro Takagi, comprises businesspeople from diverse fields, including marketing, technology, and agriculture. Takagi expressed hope that the visit would strengthen economic ties between Mozambique and Japan, fostering mutually beneficial growth. “We hope to capitalize on this opportunity to develop our exchange and accelerate the economies of Mozambique and Japan,” he stated.

Álvaro Massingue, chairperson of the CCM, welcomed the delegation, highlighting the significant potential of Mozambique’s agro-industrial sector. “This is a country with great potential, great business opportunities for both Mozambicans and foreigners,” he emphasized. “The country has more than 36 million hectares of arable land. It is rich in natural resources and is crossed by important watercourses that favor both rainfed and irrigated agriculture.”

Massingue described the visit as an exploratory mission, facilitating exchanges between businesspeople to identify areas of synergy and potential collaboration. “This allows exchanges between businesspeople to see what our side can offer and what they also offer, and then synergies will emerge and business will be done,” he explained.

The delegation is scheduled to travel to Nampula province on Tuesday to gather further information about the Ribaué and Ilha de Moçambique districts, where they may establish their businesses. This on-the-ground assessment will provide the investors with valuable insights into the local conditions and opportunities available. The visit underscores the growing interest in Mozambique’s untapped potential and the country’s efforts to attract foreign investment.
