MAPUTO — Mozambique will pitch a series of major agricultural, mining, and industrial development projects to Indian investors at an upcoming bilateral forum in New Delhi, the head of the country’s main business association said.

The southern African nation aims to secure both capital and technical expertise to accelerate its domestic manufacturing capabilities, according to Álvaro Massinga, president of the Confederation of Economic Associations (CTA).

“We are bringing what we produce, as well as our potential, to exhibit to our Indian partners in various areas, primarily in mining and agriculture,” Massinga told reporters in Maputo following a preparatory meeting with an Indian delegation. “We are focusing on production and industry.”

The high-stakes push comes ahead of the 4th India-Africa Business Forum, scheduled to take place in the Indian capital from May 29 to 31.

Mozambique’s newly elected President, Daniel Chapo, is confirmed to attend the summit, according to Shri Shetkintong, India’s High Commissioner to Mozambique. Shetkintong urged a broad turnout from Mozambican executives, framing the event as a critical window to expose underexplored local markets to international buyers.

“There are many business opportunities in Mozambique that entrepreneurs from other countries are unaware of,” Shetkintong said. “This will be an opportunity for Mozambican entrepreneurs to go to India and see if they can collaborate.”

Expanding Economic Footprint

New Delhi has aggressively expanded its economic footprint across Africa over the last half-decade. According to data tracked by the CTA, Indian investment into the continent has surged to approximately $80 billion, heavily concentrated in telecommunications, energy, pharmaceuticals, infrastructure, mining, and manufacturing.

Mozambique, which sits on vast untapped mineral wealth and arable land, views Indian industrial know-how as a vital catalyst for economic diversification.

Massinga noted that the upcoming trip is designed to build on several existing cooperation and investment pacts signed during previous iterations of the forum, which first launched in 2008.

The event is also expected to serve as a progress report for Indian firms already anchored in the Mozambican economy.

“It is an opportunity… for companies already operating here the Indian ones  to present the results of their investments in Mozambique,” Massinga said.
