In a decisive move set to streamline trade flows across Southern Africa, global inspection and testing authority Alfred H Knight (AHK) has launched a brand-new metals and minerals testing laboratory in Maputo, Mozambique. The strategic facility lands right at the heart of one of Africa’s fastest-growing logistics hubs, bringing high-precision analytical services directly to the doorstep of regional mining operations and major export corridors.
For years, mining companies operating across Mozambique and the broader regional hinterland faced a persistent logistical bottleneck: cross-border sampling. Critical mineral samples often had to travel hundreds of kilometers across national borders to access specialized testing facilities, adding costly administrative friction and stretching turnaround times. AHK’s new hub eliminates these delays by offering localized sample preparation and comprehensive testing for core regional commodities including iron ore, manganese ore, chrome ore and concentrate, and ferrochrome.
As Southern Africa’s appetite for efficient mineral export infrastructure escalates, positioning top-tier testing capability at key exit points like Maputo, Matola, and Beira marks a major operational leap forward.
