FMBcapital Holdings, which operates as First Capital Bank across Botswana, Malawi, Mozambique, Zambia and Zimbabwe, used the 2026 Investing in African Mining Indaba in Cape Town to reinforce its positioning as a financial partner for the region’s mining sector.
Group Managing Director Jaco Viljoen said the bank sees Indaba as a strategic rather than simply promotional platform. He said, “The Bank is keen to support the mining industry across all five countries in which we operate, with particular focus on Malawi, our home market. We have been supporting mining companies through transactional banking, financing and working capital facilities. Ultimately, it’s about building long-term partnerships with the mines and the broader ecosystem.”
Viljoen noted a marked shift in energy at this year’s event compared to previous editions, pointing to growing international interest in Malawi specifically. “This year feels significantly stronger than last year. There is noticeably more activity and engagement. We are also participating alongside the Government of Malawi, which adds further momentum,” noted Viljoen.
The bank participated through the Malawi Pavilion, with representatives drawn from all five operating countries. Mozambique’s Director of Business Banking and Retail, Krishnah Rameschandra, highlighted the bank’s ability to support not only large-scale operators but the full supplier and contractor ecosystem around them, a value proposition increasingly relevant as mining houses scrutinise the depth and reliability of their financial service partners across the region.
