Andrada Mining Ltd. is embedding itself in Namibia’s economic fabric through a robust corporate social responsibility program and a comprehensive environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategy. The company, which operates the Uis Tin Mine, has directly impacted almost 3,000 Namibians through initiatives spanning education, healthcare, and infrastructure.
The miner leverages Namibia’s mining sector social multiplier of ×7 to estimate its broader economic impact, underscoring a commitment to creating value beyond its direct operations. This philosophy is evident in its increased local procurement, which hit £21 million (about N$499 million) last year. This spending, primarily directed at Namibian-owned businesses, supports local entrepreneurship and job creation. Nearly 100% of the company’s 315-strong workforce are Namibian nationals.
Andrada’s ESG efforts extend to operational efficiency and safety. The company reported a 5% reduction in water use and a 7% decrease in energy consumption. In a notable safety improvement, it achieved zero fatalities and a 16% drop in its total recordable injury frequency rate.
To ensure long-term sustainability and transparency, Andrada is aligning its ESG reporting with global standards such as the GISTM, GRI, and ICMM principles. The establishment of a board-level ESG committee and plans to integrate biodiversity action plans and climate scenario modeling further solidify its governance framework. This strategic approach not only contributes to Namibia’s national development goals but also bolsters Andrada’s long-term operational license in the country’s critical minerals sector.
