Maputo, Mozambique – Portuguese construction giant Mota-Engil has secured a significant boost to its order book in Mozambique, following the extension of a mining contract in the Tete province.
The company announced on Tuesday that it had signed an addendum to its existing contract with Vulcan S.A., a subsidiary of the Jindal Group, for the mining project at the Moatize Mine. The extension will see Mota-Engil continue to provide services until December 31, 2027.
This contract extension is valued at a substantial US$576 million (€521 million), adding significantly to Mota-Engil’s order book in Mozambique. “This reinforces the stability and predictability of contract mining activities in the African region,” the company stated in a press release.
The extension of the Moatize Mine contract is a testament to Mota-Engil’s strong track record in Mozambique and its ability to deliver high-quality mining services. The company’s presence in the country has been instrumental in supporting the development of its mining sector.
“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Vulcan S.A. and to contribute to the ongoing success of the Moatize Mine,” said a spokesperson for Mota-Engil. “This contract extension is a major milestone for our operations in Mozambique and demonstrates our commitment to delivering value to our clients.”
The extension of the Moatize Mine contract is expected to provide a significant boost to Mota-Engil’s revenues and profits in the coming years. The company’s strong presence in Mozambique positions it well to capitalize on the growing demand for mining services in the region.
