Royal IHC last Friday celebrated a significant milestone in the construction of Kenmare Resources’ new electric mining dredger. The keel-laying ceremony marked the official start of construction for the two custom vessels, which are being built concurrently at IHC Mining’s yard in Kinderdijk.

“These dredgers will be instrumental in supporting Kenmare’s expansion plans at the Moma Mine in Mozambique,” said Hans Greve, Director of IHC Mining. “With their impressive power output, they will be capable of handling the increased mining demands at the newly extended mine site.”

The two new electric cutter suction dredgers will join Kenmare’s fleet, which already includes three other dredgers delivered by IHC Mining. The most recent addition, the JULIA, was commissioned in 2019. The new vessels are expected to be operational at the Nataka mine site, a newly extended area of the Moma Mine, for several decades.

The dredgers are scheduled for delivery in late 2024 or early 2025. This project is a testament to IHC Mining’s expertise in designing and building custom dredging solutions for the mining industry.
