The President of Mozambique, Daniel Francisco Chapo reaffirmed his country’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Tanzania during the inauguration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan in Dodoma. Attending as Guest of Honour, Chapo highlighted the enduring friendship and shared history between the two nations, rooted in the liberation struggle and long-standing political solidarity.
Speaking to the press, he recalled the historical support Tanzania provided during Mozambique’s fight for independence and the formation of the Mozambique Liberation Front (Frelimo) in Tanzania on 25 June 1962. “The relationship between the Mozambican people and the Tanzanian people is historical,”said Chapo. He also acknowledged Tanzania’s decisive role in Mozambique’s independence and the construction of the Mozambican state.
Chapo described his presence at the ceremony as a gesture of solidarity and friendship on behalf of all Mozambicans, while emphasising the opportunity to further strengthen bilateral cooperation across strategic sectors such as trade, transport, energy and regional security. “We thought it was very important to be here on behalf of the Mozambican people but also to solidify the relations of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two peoples,” noted Chapo.
The inauguration in Dodoma brought together Heads of State, government officials and representatives of regional and international organisations, reflecting the broader spirit of African integration and good neighbourliness that guides Mozambique’s foreign policy. During his visit, Chapo held meetings with Hassan and other leaders to discuss deepening collaboration in economy, infrastructure, education, energy, security and cross-border development initiatives.
